Hi, I'm Steven.

Baseline is my studio. I design and build apps for the Mac, iPhone and web, and I make laser-cut wooden maps here in Denver.

Most of it started as something I wanted for myself: a recipe app that's just the recipe, dictation that keeps my voice on my Mac, an assistant that doesn't need my whole inbox.

My day job is leading digital product teams in the ski industry. I've been doing some version of that for twenty years, at agencies and in-house.

01 Apps

Kept Recipes

iPhone app · Free on the App Store

Recipe sites make you scroll past a life story and a dozen ads to find the part you need. Kept Recipes takes a screenshot, a shared link or a pasted URL and turns it into a clean cookbook page you can actually cook from.

It's free, it has no ads, and your recipes stay private.

Better Voice

Mac app · Free and open source

Dictation is usually one subscription and meeting notes are another, and both send your audio to someone else's servers. Better Voice does both from the menu bar.

Hold a key to dictate into any app. Record a meeting and you get a summary, with who said what, filed in Apple Notes. All of it runs on your Mac.

Mabel

Email assistant · Invite-only beta

Mabel is an assistant you reach by email. Forward a message or ask a question, and a useful reply shows up in about a minute.

She never gets access to your inbox. She only sees what you send her.

Laser Map Studio

Web app · Free to preview

Laser Map Studio started as a tool I wanted for myself. Draw a box anywhere on a map, tune the roads, buildings and water, and download a file that's ready for your machine: SVG or DXF for a laser, 3MF for a multi-material printer.

It's also where I learned to run a product end to end: billing, support, releases and a community.

02 The fine print

  • Solve a real problem

It should fix something people run into all the time.

  • Easy to figure out

You shouldn't need a tutorial. If you do, that's on me.

  • Keep it simple

Fewer screens, fewer settings. I'd rather leave a feature out than make the app harder to use.

  • No tricks

No ads, no dark patterns pushing you to upgrade, and I'm not selling your data.
